Why St. Croix Rods?

St. Croix offer a range of excellent rods to fit your fishing environment and your budget, they are made in North America, and they make their own rods. How novel! A rod manufacture that actually makes rods. You would be surprised how many rod manufactures actually buy rods that are made for them overseas and then resell them to you and present them as an American company.

What shocks me is when consumers will pay more money for a inferior product just because a super star puts his name on it. Ask yourself, do you think the super star actually made this rod? He may have picked the handle and the color and call it 5 wt trout rod, but what you need is a rod that works well for where you are fishing.

Whether it is out west in a big river, or fishing for 13 lb browns in upstate New York, or on the north branch of the Potomac in ripping current, we can match a St. Croix rod to your fishing situation and your budget.

I've tested all of St Croix's 6 wts. which is the best wieght for smallmouth fishing here on the Potomac & Shenendoah. All the rods were tested with the same reel and line. Keep in mind that we can achieve a lot of different results by changing line and rod action to ultimately find the smoothest most efficient casting rod combination for you. You are not going to get that at the big box stores. If you go into a big box and tell them you would like to buy a rod for smallmouth fishing, nine out of ten times, they will give you a 5 wt trout rod with trout line, and it's just not going to work, you won't understand why it's so hard and you'll stop fly fishing. That's not what we want.

St. Croix rods, when compared by indepentant analysts, saves the consumer hundreds of dollars when comparing apples to apples.  Please see the Fly Fisherman Magizine 2010 Gear Guide.
